Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is seeking a VISTA worker (Volunteers In Service To America) for the Wichita Falls area.  There are potentially TWO positions available.

 Summer Associate VISTA 

• Employment Dates: May 29 – Aug 7, 2012 (with the option to continue for the next year) Need to apply asap!
• Earn a living allowance to cover necessities during service (approx. $800-$900 monthly)
• Earn $1,174.60 for college or $125/month end-of service stipend
• Receive free on-site training and orientation
• Acquire valuable job experience

 Full-Time VISTA

• Pre-Service Orientation date: July 17-20, 2012 OR Aug 14-17, 2012
• Employment Dates: July 23, 2012 through July 16, 2013  OR Aug 20, 2012 through August 13, 2013
• Earn a living allowance to cover necessities during service
• Earn $5550 for college or $1500 end-of service stipend
• Coverage by the AmeriCorps VISTA Health Benefits Program
• Receive free on-site training and orientation
• Acquire valuable job experience

This position seems best geared toward empty-nesters/newly retired persons OR college students in between undergrad and graduate work.  VISTA workers cannot be working another job while completing their VISTA assignment.   VISTA workers basically work full time (flexible schedule) for a local non-profit for a full year.  BBBS has applied for and received approval for additional positions in Wichita Falls to continue our efforts in recruiting volunteers to mentor in the community.  VISTA workers are volunteering a year of service but they do get a small cost-of-living stipend (about $ 800-900/mo) as well as other benefits through AmeriCorp/VISTA and BBBS.  Applicants must have valid Driver’s License and transportation.
